Nighttime conversation

As I was tucking Daniel in to bed last night - for some reason he's been on a Mommy kick lately - we prayed for everybody we know, including Uncle John in Marine boot camp. So here's how the prayer & ensuing conversation went:
...."so please keep Uncle John safe and help him to know everything he needs to know. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Daniel: "Uncle John's in boot camp, Mama?"
Me: "Yep, buddy, Uncle John's in boot camp."
Him: "He's gonna be a soldier?"
Me: "He's gonna be a Marine."
Him: " What's Marine for?" [this is his way of asking what something means]
Me: "Well, it's kind of like a soldier, only a little tougher and they know how to do more things." [Please, no disrespect meant to Army, Navy, or USAF.]
Him: "That means we're gonna be safe."

Yep, buddy. That's right. If Uncle John's a Marine, I think we're good to go.

If you can't see the shirt, it says "My Uncle is a Marine".
We're flyin' the flag for ya, John-boy.

Funk

Have been in a bit of a funk, blog- and otherwise.

I'm not really sure why. Spring is coming, my favorite time of the year. Jesus has actually been working this week and actually making some money. I'm on vacation next weekend (3/28-29) from work. Daniel has been fine, nothing more than the occasional 3yo stuff. March Madness is upon us. Our anniversary #6 is this Sunday. I'm working out regularly again, and losing some weight and gaining some muscle. We have a great church family that we are all really starting to bond with.

But here it is, the funk. Maybe it's the grays I see in increasing numbers every AM when I look in the mirror (it really is getting bad). Maybe it's constantly having the immigration crap present. Maybe it's that I'd really rather be a stay-at-home mom (which, 5 days a week, I am anyway). Maybe it's that I'm worried about my brother in USMC boot camp. That's going to get worse before it gets better. Maybe I just need a break from work!

Maybe, if this keeps up much longer, it's time to up the Zoloft.

I haven't uploaded pictures since I don't know when. We've been taking them, just forgetting to upload them.

On a completely unrelated note, we watched "Hotel Rwanda" Tuesday. REALLY good movie. Paul Rusesebagina really is a hero. I'm ready for a funny movie. I think "Borat" is coming up in the queue shortly. (We tried "Finding Neverland" but just couldn't get into it.)

I just don't have the heart to correct him

My son, bless his dear little bilingual Southern 3-year-old heart.
I wish he would not pronounce it "ass cream."

ACC Champs!!!!

In spite of that bogus offensive foul called against Hansbrough. (I agree with ya, Roy. They shoulda been calling it both ways.)

There'll be a Carolina Victory
When cross the field the foe has fled
Cheer the team to Victory
For we are Tar Heels Born and Bred
(Rah! Rah! Rah!)
Glory, Glory, U.N.C.
Our hearts will live with thee
Fight! Fight! Fight!
The Blue and White are
Rolling to Victory!

My mother-in-law

This is a picture of my mother-in-law (she's on the left), the only one we have, and the only one that exists, as far as we know. I of course never got to meet her, but I hear she was a really great lady who loved my husband. She and one of the siblings (Emma, whom she's holding in the picture) died when he was 10 years old in a farm vehicle accident, so Jesus' memories of them are somewhat distant. You know that old question about if you could have dinner with anyone living or dead, who would it be? Well, my answer would be Bertha Lopez Castillo & Emma Guevara Lopez. My mother-in-law & my sister-in-law that I never met.

Daniel-isms

"dollarses"
"sockses"
"soapses"

All plural forms of common words, of course.

Not too far off from "Sneaky little hobbitses...." :)
