But, as one of Daniel's favorite songs goes, "He's got the whole world in His hands."

Mexicans take their futbol seriously...
....we knew this already. But it was really driven home when we saw on the Spanish news channel a shrine replete with flowers and candles and food....and the saint (we don't know which one) dressed in a Mexican soccer jersey.
Mexico played Brazil last night in the Americas Cup and won 2-0. Next game is 7/1. Fortunately, that one will be at a time that I can be awake to watch. :)

Father's Day Part 2

Father's Day

On this Father's Day 2007, I have to say I am married to the best father in the world. He loves our son and showers him with hugs, kisses, and "I love you"s every day. He bathes him most nights (at Daniel's request), puts him to bed at night (ditto), and is the first person Daniel looks for in the morning when we wakes up. What makes this even more touching to me is that I know he did not receive this sort of love & affection from his own father. He is determined to prove to the world and himself that he will NOT allow history to repeat itself. Those of us who know him believe that he has more than done this already. I am proud to call him my husband and Daniel is proud (or will be when he knows what "proud" means) to call him "Papa." Happy Father's Day honey. We love you!! XOXOXO
To my dad, my stepdad, grandfathers, and uncles who have been so important in shaping who I am today, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all.

No, A Big One!
This is Daniel's say of saying:
- He wants more macaroni (or any other food) on his fork
- He wants the music/TV volume turned up
- He wants the paper airplane his father has made him to fly farther
- He wants you to dance faster
- He wants the water in the bathtub faucet to be coming out faster.
Usually this is shrieked. And sometimes it comes out in Spanglish: "NO, un big one!"
Maybe this is a nutty idea, but I'm going to try it. JRR Tolkien was a Christian. And although God or Jesus or Christianity is never mentioned in the LOTR books, I think it is worth a shot to read them and see what Biblical concepts or verses or anything I can find. My own version of "Finding God in the Lord of the Rings." There is the obvious stuff, like Frodo bearing evil to save the earth, and Aragorn as the returning king, but I'm sure there is a lot more stuff in there that's more subtle. I'm going to give it a shot & see.
And, here is the requisite picture....

He wears them better than Paris
..what you won't see is that those glasses are the only thing he's wearing!Sound bite: (from naptime)
D: I have the doggie.
Me: Yes, you have a doggie [stuffed].
D: He has the ears.
Me: Yes, he has ears.
D: Let's count the ears....one, two!
Me: Very good, he has two ears.
D: Vamos a contar las patas (Let's count his feet)
Me: One, two....
D: No! Uno, dos, tres, cuatro!!!
My kid teaches me things: The other day we were getting out of the car to help Jesus plant some plants at his (Daniel's) preschool teacher's house. I asked him to leave his Beanie Baby in the car, so he dropped it on the seat beside him. He looked down and saw his toddler Bible and said, "Leave Jesus in the car?" And under the circumstances, it was probably a good idea. But I got to thinking, how often do I leave Jesus in the car when I really should take Him with me? We are supposed to be the fragrance of Christ. Do I leave that in the car when I get out to go to work? To Wal-Mart? To the DMV? (there's a challenge!) Made me think.

Migrant farmworker pics
These are all very very moving, I thought. It took me back to when I worked with migrant farmworkers full-time and realized what extraordinary people they are. Click on the title to view.

Very cool website
My mother pointed me to a website full of great information about immigration. Sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh. For the record, I am not Catholic but do feel that in this issue, the Catholic church has taken an unapologetic stance in the name of something that is right.

Also, check out the July issue of Time magazine. Very cool as well. Somebody did their homework before writing these articles. I plan on buying multiple issues and leaving them at work for all to see.
Quotes:
"I'm an artist." (holding his paintbrush)
"Mama, Papa, and D ready for going to eat chicken."
